Michael Aharon - Composer

Michael Aharon is a composer of music for film and television, and an owner of Maja Audio Group, an audio production facility in Philadelphia.

An eclectic multi-instrumentalist, he has moved continuously among the worlds of electronic music, acoustic folk and orchestral scoring. In the mid-1980s, he played cello, bass and piano in the Appalachian folk-fusion band Trapezoid, with whom he toured in North American and Asia. At the same time, he designed electronic textures for television commercials and created orchestral scores for films such as the documentary Beyond Imagining, which was nominated for an Academy Award.

Aharon opened Maja Audio Group in 1999 with partner John Anthony, a percussionist and audio producer. This summer, they will open Maja NY in Manhattan.

As a producer and musician, Aharon has collaborated with artists such as Irish luminaries Seamus Egan, John Doyle, Eileen Ivers and Liz Carroll; with folksingers John McCutcheon, Fred Small and Tom Juravich; and on platinum-selling pop and R&B tracks by Backstreet Boys and Dru Hill. He received a gold record for his work on Patti LaBelle's Burnin' album.

His songs have been recorded by artists including Heather Mullen, Moon People and Cara Jones, whose recording of Aharon's song Spill It Out was featured on the television program “Dawson's Creek.”

Michael's film credits include contributions to the scores for Jonathan Demme's Philadelphia, Edward Burns' Cannes-winning debut The Brothers McMullen and Two Bits, starring Al Pacino. He recently scored the independent feature Always Will, which won the 2005 Audience Award at the International Family Festival in Los Angeles.
